Summer Reading - Zoey Punches the Future in the Dick by David Wong

The second book in the Zoey Ashe series by David Wong, or rather, Jason Pargin. The first book, Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits, drops an unsuspecting barista in the world of organized crime, unfathomable wealth, and just about limitless personal power. It's like Willy Wonka met Cyberpunk 2077, got married by an Elvis impersonator in Las Vegas while drunk on too many kamikazes, and then gave birth to The Boys. Man, it was fun.
Book 2 has Zoey fully entrenched in her late dad's empire, trying to make sense of the media, the changing technological landscape, and how she can say true to herself. Feh. I make it sound kind of lame. But seriously, there's a mech-cat that barfs up moisturizer samples for laughs. In amongst the social commentary are some tremendous bits of silliness. Pargin has a gift for being a giant goofball, who clobbers you in the side of the head with some really trenchant social analysis. In a good way. Promise.
